Water Falls?

Toss some water on a hot surface and the water will sizzle and evaporate. Toss it on a VERY hot surface and some of the water will evaporate and create a vapor-cushion on which the remaining water droplet will ride and move around the hot surface.

Okay that's pretty basic and established so you ask, "What's so Wohba about that?"

Now make the surface a super hot brass saw-tooth ridged staircase and the vapor cushion will seek the easiest escape route ---UP--- along with its piggy backing water droplet!

Here is the movie.

For more information check it out here.

Tvashtar Eruption

The New Horizons spacecraft has been dutifully making it's way to Pluto for the last year and a half. It won't get there for another eight years, but along the way it just cruised past Jupiter and captured this amazing sequence of images of Tvashtar, an erupting volcano on Jupiter's moon Io.

Alkali Metals

There is something magical about adding water to stuff to make it explode! Fun! Invigorating! As this video explains, alkali metals are just such a stuff. Rubidium and Cesium are particular amazing.

(Thanks Noah!)

Royal Crayon

Top Men might be jealous if this tech-toy ever makes it into a kid's room. Drawing on walls with laser light needs to stay safely in the lab - our lab.

Methane Rocket Engine

Top men everywhere like to play with fire. Top men at NASA just have the luxury of a big budget to do it with. Here* is their latest methane blow torch rocket engine. Loud, powerful, and even kind of pretty - what more could Top Men want.

Details are here for those who are interested.

*(Here is an inferior YouTube version if you have trouble with the wmv version above.)

UPDATE (05/09): FYI: The repeating white shapes in the exhaust are called shock diamonds or mach disks. (Via SpaceWeather.com)

Space 'n Lightning

Top Men have run across some rather amazing lightning movies - but these movies aren't your average, run-of-the-mill lightning movies. We bring you lightning viewed from space, and strange, colored, alien lightning that shoots into space. Wohba!

These movies were captured on various Space Shuttle missions. They give a high level point-of-view to some rather active storms.

These movies are just plain alien. Pilots claimed to have seen jets of lightning shooting upward from storms, but it wasn't until recently that the phenomenon was actually documented.
